How long does it take to get a Colorado Solar Permit?

Colorado solar permits can take up to one hour to 10 weeks or beyond to receive, depending on your location and your county’s permitting process. Some cities and counties utilize “over the counter” permits, Community Core Solutions (3rd party resource), or AHJs (Authority Having Jurisdiction). However, Sandbox Solar is a full-service solar company that takes care of the entire solar process from start to finish, including all solar permitting requirements for your solar installation.

What permitting process does my city or county use?

Each city or county may have a different method of submitting permits depending on your location and the size of your city’s jurisdiction. Below are the types of permitting processes used by cities and counties in Colorado and locations that utilize these processes.

Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)

Authority Having Jurisdiction permits can typically take up to 6 weeks to receive. “Authority Having Jurisdiction means the Division, Building Department, Fire Chief, Fire Marshal, or other designated official of a county, municipality, special authority, or special district that has code enforcement responsibilities and employs a building inspector or certified fire inspector.”
