L’Avenir Solar-Powed Living in Fort Collins

Sandbox Solar had the opportunity to work on an amazing project providing solar-powered living in Fort Collins. L’Avenir townhomes in downtown Fort Collins is a net-zero energy building complex that harnesses power from the sun and geothermal wells! The units are complete with two bedrooms, a study, and four bathrooms. Not to mention, they are located in the heart of Old Town Fort Collins and offer the ultimate day-to-day quality living. You can learn more about our project with them below.

What is the L’Avenir living building in Fort Collins?

L’Avenir features the latest in technology, residential sustainable design, and materials. In fact, the building is fully powered solar and geothermal energy from 7,350-foot-deep wells that capture the constant temperature of the earth. Additionally, geothermal energy is the most environmentally friendly and efficient heating and cooling technology on earth!

Atop the roof is L’Avenir’s powerhouse, which includes efficient 345- to 360-watt solar panels installed by Sandbox Solar. Therefore, each home is powered by twenty solar panels that provide enough power for living at a net-zero energy level. In addition, the solar panels are net metered by the City of Fort Collins utilities department. L’Avenir provides user-friendly monitoring software to track your energy production and energy use in real time.

What have we learned from this Project?

The L’Avenir demonstrates the ability to create accessible net-zero-energy living for our community. Thus providing Fort Collins with the inspiration of meet their Climate Action Plan goals. Continuous community support of the development of more sustainable and regenerative buildings is a necessity to accomplish this. Furthermore, net-zero energy is becoming easier and cheaper to achieve.
