Wheatridge Solar Trailhead in Jefferson County
Located just west of Golden and the Colorado School of Mines, the Wheat Ridge Solar Array trailhead is situated just north of Clear Creek and the popular Clear Creek Trail. This trailhead serves as a rest area for hikers as they enter and leave the trail into the park. This location sees thousands of visitors from spring to fall and utilizes a great deal of energy to sustain itself!

Jefferson County engaged Sandbox Solar to bring photovoltaic panels to their existing infrastructure in the hopes of providing hikers with facilities that provide their power generation. This type of investment helps local communities decrease their infrastructure dependence on traditional power generation needs and increase their communities energy self-sufficiency!
Solar Trailhead Specs:
Sandbox was happy to provide the county with a plan to install a solar array of:
- 40x REC Solar REC400AA panels
- 40x Enphase IQPlus-72-2-US Inverters
- 1x Enphase IQ Combiner 4C with an IQ Gateway for production monitoring
This system produces solar power to the tune of 16KW.
