Site Visit and Initial Assessment

Your solar journey begins with a visit from one of our knowledgeable solar advisors. During this appointment, we assess the condition of your roof, the proposed panel layout, and any shading that may affect your solar energy production. We also inspect your home’s electrical panel to ensure it can support your new solar arrays. This initial evaluation helps us design a system that is efficient and tailored to your specific property’s needs.

Engineering and Design

Once the site visit is complete, our team begins designing your solar energy system using advanced software that models optimal energy production. This design phase ensures your layout meets local building and fire codes while maximizing the efficiency of solar energy capabilities. Your proposal will outline expected energy output, system size, and detailed equipment information, including solar panels, inverters, and various other components to ensure your system runs its best.

Internal Review Process

Before anything is submitted to your local building department, your project undergoes a series of internal quality-control reviews. Our team evaluates each solar design to confirm accuracy, safety, and code compliance. This multi-step review ensures your project is ready for permitting without unnecessary delays or revisions.

Permitting and Approvals

As licensed solar contractors in Northern Colorado, we are required to obtain a building permit for all residential and commercial solar installations. Once the engineering and review phases are complete, we submit your plan set and permit application to your local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Their building engineers review the plans to verify compliance with all applicable codes. This process typically takes two to four weeks. After approval, the AHJ issues the building permit, which will be posted onsite once your solar panel installation begins.

Utility Interconnection Agreement

Since your PV system connects to your home and the utility grid, we must also submit your engineered plans to your utility provider. They will issue an interconnection agreement for both the homeowner and our solar contractors to complete. Approval of this agreement is required before your new system can be connected to the grid, and it’s the first step toward lowering your monthly utility bill!

PV System Installation

With permits and utility approvals in hand, the PV system installation can begin. Your dedicated project coordinator at Sandbox+ Solar manages the process from start to finish. Our skilled solar panel installation crews mount the racking and hardware that secure the panels to your roof, followed by panel placement.

Then, our electricians complete the wiring and inverter installation at your main electrical panel. Inverters convert the energy produced by your solar panels into usable electricity for your home and the grid.

A Sandbox+ Solar technician will also connect your PV system to your home’s Wi‑Fi, enabling monitoring through the Enphase website and mobile app. We complete all commissioning requirements for rebates or energy‑efficiency programs you choose to participate in if they are available to you. Finally, we provide a full system walk‑through and show you how to activate your system once permission to operate (PTO) is granted.

Inspections and Activation

After solar energy system installation, your project coordinator schedules an on-site inspection with your local AHJ. This inspection ensures the system meets all fire and electrical safety codes. Once passed, the inspection report is sent to your utility provider, who performs their own review of the meter housing before granting PTO. After PTO is issued, your solar panel system can officially be turned on and begin producing clean energy.
